It's not something we like to dwell on but in all forms of contact sport there is always the chance that a player may get injured.

Fortunately, our competition has seen very few injuries over the years and these are generally of the minor sprains and strained muscles variety. Nevertheless it is comforting to know, that like most football clubs throughout Australia, we carry medical insurance to assist with the costs should a player need medical treatment as a result of an on-field injury - be it during a game or during training.

Our insurance is arranged through JLT Sport AFL and basically it provides cover for all medical expenses not otherwise covered under Medicare. Such items include:

- Physiotherapy
- Chiropractor
- Dental
- Private hospital accommodation (generally the gap between private insurance benefit and the actual cost)
- Ambulance

Anybody from our club who wishes to make a claim should first visit JLT's website where they will find full details of the insurance cover and where they can download a claim form.

After completing the form they should arrange to have it signed by the club president or secretary and then proceed with their claim as outlined on the form.

In addition to making a claim through JLT Sport AFL, we ask that anyone who is affected by an injury - whether it be during a game or at training, to complete our standard Incident Report Form and return it our Secretary - Richard Martin - PO. Box 4026, Balwyn East, Vic, 3103.

By completing our form you will allow us to keep track of these incidents and enable us to assist and support you.

A guideline to use in deciding whether an Incident should be completed would be - all injury incidents where -

• A player has to be taken from the ground due to be injury and requires treatment or

• Has to attend a doctor or hospital following a game or training.

We also point out that in addition to the standard cover that JLT AFL provide, our club has elected to upgrade the cover to the highest level available which basically extends the limit of cover for each individual claim. Please be aware however that although the cover is the most extensive available, it does not provide 100% coverage and all claims are subject to an excess.
